Jim was managing IT and facilities at Ubicom when I was hired as VP of Engineering in 2000. At that time, Jim was reporting to the VP of Operations. When the VP of Operations left Ubicom, we decided not to replace him and instead Jim (and others) were moved into my organization. Jim is an outstanding leader of IT. He is both very technical and an outstanding manager. Jim personally engineered a very robust IT infrastructure within Ubicom which included a high-speed internal and external network, a powerful computer server farm, mail and file servers, the phone system, and a high degree of security. This enabled very high productivity for all Ubicom employees. Jim also managed facilities flawlessly, including multiple building moves over the years. Jim's IT technical knowledge is exceptional. We never had a problem that he and his team could not resolve quickly and effectively. Jim prides himself on providing state-of-the-art IT capability and keeping the network up and productive 24/7. The amount of downtime that we experienced per year was measured in a just a few hours. He can be counted on to respond to an issue at any time of the day or night. Jim runs a very lean and efficient organization. He hired a very talented and committed younger IT engineer and groomed him to become a senior IT professional. Because of Jim's knowledge, management skills, and maturity, I was able to empower him broadly and I managed him with high-level objectives. I was always delighted with the results that he delivered. In recognition of his leadership and long-term outstanding contributions, I promoted Jim to Director. Any company would be lucky to have Jim leading their IT organization.
